Bankrupt at 11.27 today!!!

Hello There

I posted about a month ago and was quite low about my situation an feeling I had let my family down etc. with £28,000 debts.

As of 11.27 today, after reaing many a post on the board, I was made bankrupt and - still feel I have let my family down but without £28,000 of debt!!!!!

I must tell you o my experience though for those like me who were / are nervous.

Rang the court about three weeks ago and got the nicest bloke called John who said he would send out the forms and to ring once filled out for an appt before xmas.

As normal with me it took until last Wednesday to fill in the forms! Rang court and the lady offered a first date of 15th January. I was beside myself as I would have another 5 weeks to fend creitors off but accepted that date.

Two days later John rang me and said come in Wednesday 10th as he remembered saying I could be done before xmas. What a gent.

Got there at 10.20 today. Waited 5 minutes an John came out and took me in to a room. Checked over the forms, ha a chat, took £495.00 off me (they dont charge for the affidavide) and said to take a seat and he would sort it out. He saw the judge for me and came back at 11.30 with my bankrupcy form and some copies. Job done!!! A shake of the hand and I was off out the door!

I know its not that easy and there are hard times ahead for which I will need the boards support but because of an extremely nice bloke my experiences of the actual bankrupcy process could not be better.

Wishing you all well.

:D congratulations, glad it went so well for you. and you have not let your family down. that is what worries me but I think about life now and life after BR. life before BR is worrying about every penny and struggling to make it from payday to payday.

After BR, I will be better off and my children better off because everything is properly budgeted so I won't have to worry about putting food on the table or letting them have a little treat now and again. I feel more guilty now because I feel I can't do things for my children because my money is swallowed up each month. After BR, I know I will feel better and I can concentrate on something more positive than having debts hanging over my head.

So you have taken a positive step for the future. :D

Congratulations squirtsdad. Now you can enjoy your family life without that dreaded debt hanging over your head. We probably all wish we weren't in this position but that is what bankruptcy is for. You live and learn.

Now you and the family can really celebrate this Christmas.

  • Time to start you life again without the guilt! My other half had to declare himself bankrupt after a particularly messy divorce and although he had to pay each month for 3 years, it gave him time to sort himself out and re-learn how to live within his means. It's certainly made him a stronger person for going through it.

The decision you take was extremely brave and you should be proud of yourself for taking some positive action and regaining control of the situation.

Just remember to pass everything onto the receiver for them to sort out. We did have First National trying to make out that their's had become a new debt since the bankruptcy and therefore still had to be paid. This was utter rubbish. As long as you have listed absolutely every creditor on the petition, they can't bully you any more.

    Well done.
