Payplan VS CCCS

Hi all,

I'm considering doing a DMP as my salary has just halved and I can't afford to repay my debts.

What is the difference between Payplan and CCCS with regards to how they work?

Are they both equal?

Comments

  • As far as I'm aware, they're both pretty similar. I'm with the CCCS and have never had any problems with them.

    Good luck

Payplan have a higher minimum (for most people).

They need at least £100 per month to be available across all your creditors. CCCS can cope with £5 per month per creditor.

They are, indeed, two excellent Debt Counselling Organisations and both have received a lot of praise from those of us who have dealt with them.

The main difference is that whilst CCCS has full 'Charity Status', Payplan is not strictly speaking, a Charity. That said, Payplan do offer free debt advice and DMPs and their advice appears to be both professional and impartial.

As with all organisations, you should choose to work with the one that is best for you.

    Good luck.

I'm with Payplan and find them excellent.
I think the only difference is that Payplan base their pro-rata payments to companies according to the amount owed and CCCS base their pro-rata payments according to the minimum payment due.
Good luck with whoever you choose.

im starting a dmp with cccs. they wanted at least £300 per month for a dmp.

Any less and it would have been a "low start" dmp and would have increase payments in the future....

    Is this wrong?

I assume that this '£300' figure is based upon your income/expenditure statement, mbs.

If so, then I am sure that CCCS would not reccomend a figure that would leave you without sufficient funds for the necessities of living.

Just a note of caution, here - when 'Googling' CCCS you are presented with a myriad of 'Private IVA Factory' companies who 'link' cccs into their name, so always check that you are dealing with the correct body - Consumer Credit Counselling Service - http://www.cccs.co.uk/ tel 0800 138 1111.

it was online, as cccs didnt call me when they were supposed to and i couldnt wait another 3 weeks for an appointment

My surplus was originally £250 but it just said "low start dmp" i had to edit my budget again and again until it went to a "normal" dmp, which was over £300

Regardless of their status, I found Payplan to be wonderful, supportive and the sorts of people who get things done. That said, they can be very hard people to get in touch with re. your debts once you're in a DMP.

This may simply have been bad luck on my part, or a combination of this and the fact that they're working flat out to cope with all the victims of the credit crunch.
