• Hiya, searched for previous threads on this and ages trawling the shops, but eveerything seems fairly girl orientated. My son is 16 and into outdoor stuff with Scouts, laptop, Ps3. I know I can't be too fussy, but I'd like to be able to buy fairly useful stuff and not end up with a pile of stocking filler junk that's too young for him and that will be binned by New Year. Thanks for any help, much appreciated.,

Both my DS and DD are active outdoor types - we camp and they're both in Scouts. What they both have enjoyed are head torches, wind-up radio and torch, and fire steel :D

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

• Thanks so much everyone for such fabulous ideas-I never expected to get so many replies and they are such brilliant ones..going to spend the evening searching online for the stuff you've suggested and try local shops at the weekend.
• I'm thinking about getting my brother a PS3 skin. There are loads of different designs and apparntly they just peel off when they want it to be normal black again.
• According to my 16 yo ds any gadget however useless it would seem to be to me from Hapers bazzar. Ie he just spent £3.99 on a phrasebook of insults in many languages.
