My mum passed away recently, and my brother took a week off work because he couldnt face going in.
He has now been told as a contractor he's not entitled to any pay for the week he was off.
Could anyone confirm if this is correct?
TIA

As an employee he wouldn't be entitled to paid time off and a contractor has even fewer rights as he is effectively self employed.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

Yes, unfortunately it probably is correct.
As was said above, you are not entitled to paid time off work even if you are a full time employee, but the majority of employers allow some compassionate leave, usually up to a week (but I know in my experience many people need longer and get a sick note from their doctor).0 -
Thanks both I'll let him know.Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0

We at our place get three days paid but that is at company's discretionmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
It would be very unusual to get as much as a week, even for a close relative; 3 days is far more normal.0

Our place is a week.
Although anyone I've known since I've been here has had at least 3/4 on a sick note for a parent or suchlike passing away.0 -
