As far as I am aware, should baliffs be sent to your property they are only able to take possessions belonging to the debtor so they should not take anything belonging to you & your wife. I'm not sure whether you have to prove your possession or whether they take your word for it. Some one on the DFW board will know. Hopefully your son won't allow his position to get that bad.

This is correct but they will probably not stop to obtain proof.....and if you dont have it they will take the belongings. Be careful and try to sort out proof...eg receipts etcDS Anthony Steven 07.06.92DD Becky Emma 24.01.94DD Rose Grace Jean 12.05.090 -
Thanks to everyone who has replied. I reposted on the debt-free thread as well, and the consensus seems to be that my wife and I are OK. We're not part of any debts he's taken on, and it seems our address is OK as well. We've tried the 'tough love' approach, but my wife can't carry it through. I cut up a credit card that I managed to get to before our son got to it (unfortunately his working hours enables him to get to the post before us) and she was really upset about it. We've managed to intercept most of his attempts to borrow money (at around 80% apr - of course these are the only people who will entertain him) but he's got involved with a company called Wonga, believe it or not, and he got the strangest reminder letter I've seen, apparently they are disappointed he has betrayed the trust they put in him!
Again, thanks.0 -
Wonga are a cash till payday lender....they feed off the weak and needy...not a nice company. However, the good news is that shortly he will have used up all resources and will not be able to get credit anywhere.
Do you know why he needs cash? My son left home at 19 - he was not good with money but needed money for drink and drugs...now he is NOT a drug addict just smoked a bit, but always needed money to go out and enjoy himself. We found it hard to cope but he actually left home of his own accord. It has done him a lot of good but it has been hard for us.
Your wife must try not to bail him out or give in.. Would she seriously give drugs to a drug addict - probably not, so this is the same thing.
Good luck...Quality is doing something right when no one is looking - Henry Ford

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to the DFW board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.
Once it's over there, it will probably be merged into the thread you started there, because it's a duplicate which is against one of the site’s rules (please see this rule). If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
i wouldnt let bailiffs in AT ALL, even for someone else's debt- once they are in, they are in, and mat sieze stuff unless toy have proof of the debtors 'non ownership', as it were.
best to sit the lad down, and tell him whats what.Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
