Anyone bake cakes - help!

Hi There,
Have been reading about your problem. As you have tasted the cake yourself and it seems fine and as you have used this recipe many times before then I honestly think the problem lies with your friend, not you !
Maybe your friend had a different expectation as to how the cake would taste or they are just being picky. Please don't let this affect your confidence you cannot please everyone. You have baked for others and not had a problem so just remember all those that you have pleased.
It is making my mouth water just thinking about your cakes, I love baking the only unfortunate thing is I only have to look at a cake and I put on half a stone!!

I agree with everyone else. Cakes do randomly go wrong sometimes due to a load of different reasons (usually mixing in my experience) but if you've tasted it and it's fine and you haven't noticed any problems then I doubt it's you. If she's used to shop bought cakes (dry, light, lots of airholes) then a proper cake may seem completely different.
Even if you have mucked up one cake it's just one cake. It doesn't mean you aren't a wonderful baker. You start that business!!0 -
Hi,why don't you bake your recipe again and let her taste it with you and ask her how this is different,if at all.
Also i always thought that a maderia cake was a little more solid and dense if you know what i mean as that is the style cake, which im my opinion makes it a little easier to decorate that a featherlight whisked sponge.
I would tend to agree with the others that maybe she had shop brought birthday cake to compare with.

Agree with every one else, sounds like she was expecting something else, like shop bought texture.
If you do go into business, could you make taster cake for prospective customers to try? Don't know how practical this would be.0
