Self Study Learning Support

I recently posted a message regarding Learning Support in schools.
I went to see my lone parent adviser and was told that they do not give funding to self study courses, the only course they would fund would be on a Monday evening, which is not good for me because of the babysitting factor.
I will be doing some voluntary work in my local primary school as of new year and really would like to do a self study course, which I'll have to find the money for myself - I was wondering whether anyone has done one and any advise you could give?

Have you had a look at the Open University?
If you put your household income and dependants in the calculator on this page, it will tell you how much you can get towards course fees.

I've been studying with them, and I've really enjoyed the experiences I've had. I'd highly recommend it.
If you've not studied for a while, try one of the 10 point Openings course, although the level 1 courses also ease you back into studying too. Here I go again on my own....0 -
That's great! Apparently I'm eligible for the maximum award, I had no idea this was available, thank you for your help!0
