dmp?????? HELP

Hi i have decided its time to stop staying awake at night worrying about my debt and actually sort out5 a way i can afford to pay it off.
My husband and myself made the BIG mistake of getting catalogues and now between us owe £1000 to two different companies.I know our debt isn't a huge amount but as a young married couple with 2 children its a struggle to say the least i ended up getting in trouble with council tax and had debt collectors at my door which i never want to have to go through again made me feel unsafe in my own home!!
Considering doing a dmp with cccs can someone please tell me if this is the right thing to doouroutlined debts are

Great Universal - £500 payment wanted monthly £50
Littlewoods -£500 payment wanted monthly £50
westcot - £70 wanted in full
Tiscali-£500 payment wanted monthly £50
Moorcroft-£120 wanted in 2 payments
total debt £1690

Our income is

Husbands wage £1130 per month
child benefit - £126 4 weekly

Out Going

rent -£370
council tax (including debt) £200
Car ins £25
t.v- £15
water- £30
Family loan £100
Soliciters fee -£50
clothing - £50
Magazines etc - £10
smoking - £20
Phone and internet £40
Electric £120

food etc weekly is covered just by Tax credits

Leaves £226 monthly

Cccs say i can have it all claered at £80 per month in just over a yearis this a good thing to do not worried about credit rating at pressent as its already pretty bad but would like to buy our council house in approx 5 years would my credit be ok by then???
I think a DMP is a sensible solution but just really want good advise from people who know .

Thanks

Hi there t-lid. What you need to do is fill in an SOA - someone will be along withthe link in a minute, I can never find it. DOn't worry. There's a way out.
  • Not sure about the credit rating thing - I think it means your credit rating is shot for about 5 years. May be worth speaking to the CCCS about it.
Don't worry though - there's always a solution to the problem. Can you do some ebaying or something to raise some extra funds to pay your debts off?

If i had anything to sell i would, have already done that and cleared a few of my old debts i know its not a lot of debt i just hate all the phone calls and have to keep pretending im out when they call but then i spend all day worrying about it!!
Myself and my husband have been arguing a lot cos i stress about it so much and he just thinks if we dont have it they cant have it but its down to me to tell them that when they call which i cant do.......im one of those people who pay's the person who shouts the loudest hence the c tax problem.
