Potatoes In Slow Cooker Question

Hi, Forgive me if it has been posted before. ( I did try a search, but turned up nothing to help)
I have a mince & veg recipe in my slow cooker for this evenings meal and I would like to try sliced potatoes over the top..
Has anyone tried this and have any tips for me? Such as:
How long after meat has gone in should potatoes be added.
Raw or par boiled?
How thick/thin should I slice them?
Any help would be great.
Merry Christmas to you all!:santa2:

I always put mine in at the start, raw and sliced thinly, they sink to the bottom!!
But it always tastes yummy!
I am sure others will be along soon with other suggestions.

Chop up into any size you like.
Microwave until they are about 80% cooked. Usually 3-5 mins for 3/4 largeish pots.
Put in slow cooker.
Always comes out lovely! The idea is to get the mostly cooked before you put them in. Pots dont really cook that well in a slow cooker unless very thinly sliced or if left for hours and hours.0 -
Hi gillian,
I always put mine on top at the start too as they can take a while to cook in the slow cooker. If you are going to do this you won't be able to thicken the meat/veg mix later so remember to stir in a little cornflour/cold water mix before adding the potatoes.
I normally lay the sliced potatoes slightly over each other so that they don't sink. Sometimes just before serving I pop the crock pot under the grill add a few knobs of butter to the top to crisp up and brown the potatoes. This works with my slow cooker but I know it will not be suitable for all types.
Hope you enjoy your meal.
