Egg mistake?! What can I do?!

in Loans
Hi all,
Last week, my standing order to my Egg loan left my account as standard. I have never missed a payment or been in arrears, and in fact, the week prior to my December payment being made I made a small (very small!) additional payment to my loan as I am trying to reduce the debt.
However, Egg took the overpayment to be my actual monthly repayment (even though it made was a week earlier than the SO is due?!), and when the SO went out to my account last week, they have not credited it to my account, and are now claiming I am in arrears?!?!
I spoke to them on the day the payment should have been received as I could see from checking my account online that it had not been credited, and the guy I spoke to said it was in a holding account and would be credited in due course, probably 48 hours. As of today (A WEEK later), the payment has not been credited. I have phoned again this morning and spoken to an advisor who told me she would try and credit the payment today, but again, it could take 48 hours to happen.
I than asked if I should make an immediate additional payment of the overdue amount as I do not want arrears showing on my account even when it's their fault, as I have a bl**dy good credit report and will be dam*ed if they're going to mess that up. The advisor told me not to as that would complicate things, and she also said that she couldn't guarantee that this wouldn't show up as a default on my file, or that I wouldn't be charged late fees. She said that if it did get sent to Experian, they could issue a note to accompany it to explain the situation or something, but that is simply not good enough!!
I am LIVID!!
I am waiting to see if it clears today, but is there anything I can do to ensure this doesn't affect my credit report? (I use Experian already so can check over the next few weeks to see if they issue a default notice....) Or are Egg in breach of their loan agreement with me etc and I can ask for a written explanation etc???
Any help greatly received!
Thanks,
xxx
