Great Universal

I didn't really know where to put this, so apologies if it is the wrong place.

Totally out of character for me, I let a door-to-door saleswoman talk me into giving my details to be sent a Great Universal catalogue. They have an introductory offer of 20% off your first order(or £15 off an order of £40 or more), so I thought it wouldn't hurt to get the catalogue then make a saving on something, even if I don't wanna buy anything else. She assured me that giving my details wouldn't result in junk mailings etc. After she left I read the leaflet she gave me and it actually sounds pretty reasonable - you get 10% cashback on orders, interest free credit and a 'price match promise'. Does anyone else order with Great Universal and have any thoughts/opinions?

  • I don't know whether you saw the threads before Christmas re the psone consoles. Great Universal were selling them including three games for £19.99 - numerous people ordered them but only received the games thereafter being told the original offer was a mistake. I order one for my son along with an accessory kit for Gameboy Advance on 20th November - I was informed Christmas week that the psone games had been dispatched - so I complained - what use were the games without the console - but they never arrived anyway. The GBA kit was showing delivered in order tracking - that never appeared either. So I gave up - cancelled the order and closed my account.

Obviously it is up to you if you want to give them a go but I just thought I would share my experience!!

Our experience with GUS (and Empire) has shown their on-line ordering systems leave a lot to be desired. Don't believe you have got anything ordered safely until it arrives.

It seems as if the ordering systems are not real-time so don't actually know if stock is really available.

Any insiders here that can confirm this and advise how to avoid the pitfalls?

Never had any problems myself and I've been using Great Universal for about 12 years. Maybe I've just been lucky :j
