Credit file after absence

I was BR three years ago, then went abroad to work. My OH moved to another town and started work there. I was, however, put on the electoral roll and have just returned probably permanently to the new house. I have had no bank account or credit cards in the UK during this time.

Does anyone know what will have happened to my credit file? My OH wants to apply for a new mortgage in a few years time and we are worried about my poor history affecting the terms if my income is included. Any clues as to what will have followed me and how would be very welcome to plan for the future.

Many thanks!

What you will need to do is follow the instructions on the Credit File Clean Up sticky at the top of the threads.

Your bankruptcy remains on your CRF's for 6 years and should then drop off. If your OH has no financial links to you then she shouldn't have any problems getting a mortgage if her file is clean.

As deedee suggests, check your credit file and make sure all default dates are correct. Do you have a bank account? I would also suggest you don't have any joint accounts etc.

  • Thanks. I don't at present have a UK bank account. What I'd also like to know is how does a credit file get transferred from one address to another, especially after a longish absence?
  • Just wondering about money owed at the time of BR.

I am owed some money for work I have done from before the date of the BR. This is actual wages and also expenses incurred to do the job. The Or has asked about this and has said that he will have to have this money. Does that mean he will take it all? Even the money which I had to pay out upfront in order to get to the job in the first place...I have to pay all my own expenses and then claim them back.

Because of the nature of my work I don't know when I will the next job will be so this money has to spread over time to cover period when I dont earn anything...and it was the xmas fund ;-(

He only mentioned money owing before the actual date of the BR...is that right meaning anything after that date is mine to live on and he will take all before that date?

    Has anyone else experinced this?
  • Sorry everyone accident....hit the button in the wrong place....have moved this post to a new thread.
