Now I know these are very cheap to buy, I bought some of those low sugar and salt ones (well they were on off & cheaper than the normal ones), to be honest I was amazed at the amount of salt in them still. I'm 'hopefully' going to be growing plum tomatoes this year so how to I get them like they are in the tin? I've been given a load of those weck canning jars, so i thought I could use them for that. How do you make baked beans in tomato sauce, or spaggetti in tomato sauce. (obviously i'n not counting on the tomato famine of 2006!!).
In this case its not the money i'm having a war on all the c**p our food is pumped with and cutting out commercial food. I must admit we didn't eat a lot of processed foods before, but its already showing improvements in our skin and energy.

I have an excellent book called 'Preserved' which cost me £4.99 from https://www.thebookpeople.co.uk
In it are all the preserving methods used, such as air drying, smoking, canning, and chapters on jams and marmalades etc.
I make HM baked beans like this: haricot beans mixed with a tin of tomatoes chopped up, a little stock and some brown sugar. Reduce down until syruppy. Delicious! They don't last long enough to get canned!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I'll hunt out the actual recipe tonight for HM baked beans - I think it was a Nigella Lawson one - they are much nicer than shop bought BB and can be made from dried haricot beans, or tinned.
Also, if you want a smooth sauce, puree the tinned toms first in a blender
I sometimes make a quick meal from this served with crusty bread:
tin tomatoes chopped up
tin beans (BB, haricot, cannellini)
half onion diced
bacon
little stock
teaspoon mustard
brown sugar to taste
worcestershire sauce to taste
fry or grill the bacon until crispy, then break into pieces
fry onion for a few minutes
mix all other ingredients in the pan and reduce to desired consistency
mix through bacon until warmed
serve with crusty bread to mop up
delicious
Another variation: omit bacon and add cooked sausages to make a sausage and bean casseroleHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

What amount of beans etc should I use, fancy giving this a try, must taste better than the attempt we presented with while on hols in TunisiaPanda on My Shoulder
If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it :rotfl:0
