i wanna buy a sword!

sshh! I'm looking to buy a dress sword for my OH, as a wedding gift. I've got a list of manufacturers from a military website although only one of them has so far bothered to respond to my email query

Having read the moneydiet book last night I'm gearing up for a bit of haggling to try and get the price down, but thought I'd post on here first for some moral support and maybe (a long shot) some insider tips (I know there's a couple of you military folk around).

here's the one quote i have so far, any opinions on a reasonable discount to aim for?

Officer's Sword £340-00
Personalised Blade Inscription Free of Charge
Brown Leather Scabbard £130-00
Brown Leather Sword Knot £ 14-00

£484-00
VAT £ 84-70

Total £568-70
Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94
Current debt: £14,000.00

    Hello Tondella

Wouldn't it be more cost effective to hire a sword? It seems like a lot of money to pay for occasional use.

you can draw a sword from the armoury for free, it's not that he needs it to use it, it's his wedding gift, and a gift from me to him to tell him how much i love him. It's going to be inscribed etc. His job is his life's ambition and I'd like to celebrate it.

Finally called up and negotiated 10% off. Now i wished I'd gone for a nice round £500, but I'm still a learner, so I'm happy with the result!
