£18,000 Mortgage

Can anyone suggest a good provider, or any provider that is willing to lend such a small amout? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Me again, I should have added that the house is worth about approx. £80K. I have been paying the mortgage for 10 years but is under someone else's name, and want to change to my name..................

    Hi Sam,
I believe Nationwide will lend for smaller mortgages, maybe also other mutuals.

When you say you've been paying the mortgage in someone elses name, who is shown as owner of the property? Reason I ask is if it's not you, you won't be able to get a mortgage on it as the lender won't have the same rights if you default if it's not you who owns it.

    HTH.
  • Hi Ian,
Thanks for that. No its not my name on the house, but are in the process of changing it over, hence why the new mortgage. Its a family home, no outside sellers involved.
Thinking of going to an independant fin. adviser, rather than phoning round all the banks.

You could also try moneysupermarket - let's you do a search based on your requirements and hopefully the companies listed will all be candidates for smaller mortgages.

Most lenders will do that size loan - I know Abbey do. Don't bust a gut looking for a cracking rate, as it won't make a lot of difference. However being able to overpay would be useful as you could probably clear the mortgage quite quickly.
