Bank charges incurring charges

Hi all,

I have searched the forums, but haven't been able to find the answer, so I'm really sorry if this has been done to death (if it has, a link will be fine, instead if an answer).

Basically, NatWest has charged me £300 over my overdraft limit in charges - i.e. one charge incurring a charge, that one then incurring another charge etc etc.

As far as I'm aware, they can't do this, is that right? I thought they could only legally charge (!) for an amount over the overdraft limit which was incurred by my soending and not their £28 charge.

Thanks!

Hmm don't think this is supposed to happen and I thought their new t's and c's clarified this - unless - are these charges that have built up over a period of months? Or is it dd's/so's coming in and being rejected (or honoured) in succession?

  • Banks seem to have their own way of calculating things. I liken it to the old British Rail Calender idea when they wanted a 27 hour day and an eight day week or something so that they could say that trains are never cancelled or running late. Any organisation that takes longer to clear a cheque today than it did 100 years ago obviously lives on the same planet as our "wonderful" government.
