Concilia

Hi all,

I'm a single mum on benefits and I have arrears of £117.00 which is for United Utilities and arrears of £136.00 which is due to British Gas for the electric!

I pay off these debts using prepayment cards but I missed 2 weeks payment before Christmas and now I keep receiving letters from Concilia saying I now have to pay the full balances! I'm still making the weekly payments on the cards but each time I phone Concilia they say they're glad that I'm making token payments but they need to increase the weekly payments and when I say I can't afford that they then tell me to pay the full remaining balance instead!

It's gotten to a point where I don't want to open their letters anymore and I don't want to phone them either as they don't really listen to me and they just try bullying me into paying amounts that I can't afford.

Shall I just keep making the payments as I have been doing or will I end up disconnected or in court like they keep threatening?

Thanks in advance for any replies!
Kate

Put your case in writing, sounds like with the telephone you're stuck speaking to autotrons who can't do anything other than what they're instructed.

It could be of benefit to get some assistance from your Citizen Advice Bureau who would assist in formulating a letter to send to state your case and show that you are already paying as much as you can. If you say in the letter that you are having assistance from the Citizen Advice Bureau they might be more likely to take notice and back off from trying to force full payment.

As you're still making regular payments they'll get all they're owed soon enough.

  • I work for United Utilities , there so called "concillia" debt collection company is mearly a different PO box number , it gets sent to the same office, it gets open and read by the same staff who deal with everyday UU mail, If you sent a letter explaining your circumstances I am sure they would understand your situation. Just try to keep up the agreed payments.

    Hope this helps
  • They cant make you make payments that you cant afford, So just keep up with all the payments you can afford and as the above said just send them a letter detailing your situation and im sure they'l be able to work around it.. Everything will work out for the best in the end. Try not to worry about it to much..

Hope things work out for you :)

    Hi Kate,

As you are currently paying as much as you can afford and they are still hassling you, it may be a good idea to provide them with a financial statement showing your incomings and outgoings. A covering letter advising them that you will continue to make regular payments at your current rate until the debt is paid off or your financial state gets better may also be worth putting in as well. Short and sweet and to the point tends to work well. Try not to enter into lengthy debates with them over the phone over whether you can or can't increase payments as it may give them the idea that if they keep on long enough you will buckle. Stay strong and stick to your guns.

    Good luck!
