I think it allows you to talk to other online players.

Wii speak is an extra item (mic etc.) that allows you to speak to other gamers if your Wii is connected to the internet. The game only option is £29.99 at various sites (play, game, gameplay etc.) if you don't want this extra functionality.

Are you sure they will allow a refund? Games, CDs, DVDs etc. are not normally refundable unless faulty.
