Lidl's Loose Earl Grey Tea

As we prefer loose tea to tea bags, we thought we'd try Lidl's Earl Grey tea which has appeared on the shelves.
Now, I can drink most tea, but to me this stuff tastes like ditchwater that someone has just tipped a bottle of eau de cologne into.
As soon as we opened the bag we knew something was wrong. The smell. They'd really piled it on with the bergamots.
Trouble is we've bought two bags of this fiendish brew. We're donating the rest to the Inland Revenue. They're civil servants. Don't they drink tea?

Small change can often be found under seat cushions.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Here's hoping Lidl haven't made it into space yet! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I agree with surfsister, Morrison's Earl Grey is quite tasty. Twinnings is nice, but I've found it can vary in strength from box to box. My fave at the moment is Sainsburys Teas of the World Earl Grey, it's very nice indeed.0 -
To be fair, the packet does mention Bergamot in a couple of places on the front. But my lass was thinking of getting some of this (saw it last night reduced), so cheers for the warning0

Earl Grey gets its flavour from Oil of Bergamot. From superscotsman's post, it sounds as though Lidl forgot to add the actual tea to it!0

Yes I know that Earl grey tea has oil of bergamot in it: I've had it often enough before.
But this stuff is just bad tea.Small change can often be found under seat cushions.

it is, i've had it too, its absolutely vile, i sprinkled it in a bag of pot pourri for a much unliked relative for birthday present. :-)0

so sorry to hear about the duff EG tea. but well impressed with the pot-pourri solution.
have you tried tying some up in a small piece of cloth (hankie, jcloth, bit of old vest) and swishing it around in the bath for scented ablutions?
i guess we learn to only buy one of an untried Lidl/Aldi own brand.0 -

Thanks Superscotsman, your description of "this fiendish brew" really made me laugh!
And I love the idea of making pot pourri out of it - what scent did you describe it as?GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
i just stuck it a pretty cellophane bag with some other pot pourri whicxh i think was rose to start with. it still stinks though.0
