Debate House Prices

In order to help keep the Forum a useful, safe and friendly place for our users, discussions around non MoneySaving matters are no longer permitted. This includes wider debates about general house prices, the economy and politics. As a result, we have taken the decision to keep this board permanently closed, but it remains viewable for users who may find some useful information in it. Thank you for your understanding.

Why are threads being closed on these boards?

Personally, I found many of the discussions on this forum illuminating. They did generally deal with the economy, various aspects of which are very relevant to house prices, and helped me a lot to reach certain decisions.

The petty interference with these boards smacks of censorship – or at the very least of someone with elevated ideas of their own importance.

What with the 'staunch Labour supporters' (or is it one supporter?) who have disrupted these boards of late, and now this, methinks it's time to abandon this forum.

What difference does it make,if a thread you liked as been moved ,just view it there, these threads will be helping other people as well.

I browse this part of the forum often and was thinking only the other day it would be good if some posters on here, posted in DT as well,as i think they would be well received.

I think they way this was done was odd as I for one had no idea what was going on. People post here as they have a specific interest and don't want to wade through lots of variety to find the relevant posts - this has always been one of the attractions of this place. I'm not sure how many posters from here will migrate over, so potentially we all lose out.

But we won't get there by a board guide making the decision for people and taking their threads over to DT in such a way that DT appears to be the dumping ground for threads the BG does not want. And we will only move away from it when the board guide who did it is over on DT stirring up the peanut gallery to support her position.
After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?

The sentiment may be well meaning, but the reality is that there are too many threads on the House Price board for an individual to take in...

    ...now we are being asked to find the threads that are interesting to us in amongst the DT threads, which at 23:15 included;

    Adoption
    Mould problems
    Incapacity Benefit
    Acupuncture
    Labour benefits
    School dress code
    Poll on revenge
    Shannon Matthews
    Football recession
    Email spam
    Alcohol for children
    Compensation culture
    Mortgage rates
    Hackney feral gangs
    Gordon Brown on Zimbabwe
    Chav thieves
    Uk car stockpile
    Shocker landlords piece
    Dinner ladies attacked my daughter...

As a guide/mod mentioned in another part of todays "why have they moved" threads, the different economic threads could end up in DT, Mortgage, Debt, etc forums...

If Mods seriously expect every single one of the 89 people, who have asked to keep varied threads in the House Price forum, to trawl multiple forums continually trying to keep abreast of whats where, they are going to alienate a large proportion of that number.

Which will be a loss to the entire website, as opposed to DT people having to go looking for economic/house threads in one known place, if the fancy takes them, and the Mods do the sensible thing.

People well generally side with board guides because they were put there for a reason, and if some long time members who have probably spoke to that particular board guide previously and are having a bit of light hearted banter, its not in any way a slight on anyone from this board.

Personally i think its a great idea to mix it up,otherwise you just see cliques forming on every board which can be intimidating for newbies, and can make a board feel tired when its the same few people posting all the time.

Ive seen a few threads moved to the arms and the people that follow with it,maybe didn't realise the place existed and have stayed and joined in with the light hearted banter.

Reading through this list just caused me to omit an involuntary chuckle thus blowing my "online christmas shopping" cover - Mr P now suspects (rightly) that I'm 'at it again'
