I am curious what led up to yours?
For me I was trucking along very nicely paying minimum payments etc etc then one cc company increased their minimum payment from £5 or 2.5% of balance whatever the lower to whatever the higher EEEKKKKKKK quickly followed by two others that did the same and my £75 for three cards min payment turned to nearly £600 overnight!!!!!!!! Compound that with the looming of interest free period ending I realised I was in crisis!!!!! This was saturday 1st November 2008.
So what triggered yours was it a slow burn or like me total blind panic?

I had over £100k of debt on top of a big mortgage. My dad died and I received a small amount of money from his estate, which I paid off the debt.
It dawned on me that if I did not get my act together and clear the rest of the debt, then not only would all my hard work be in vain, but my Dad's life's work would also have been in vain. That was not a nice feeling to be facing, so I decided to do something about it.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. I trundled along in a nice state of denial for a while after having my son. Then one month I realised not only did I not have enough to pay my CC but that I didn't have enough coming in the next month to cover ANY of my debts. The true LBM was when I spoke the figure out loud to my Husband (£18,000 at the time!). Scared the pants off me.
I paniced quite spectacularly and immediately signed up for an IVA. Thankfully, before my creditors meeting I discovered this website and someone gave me some fantastic advice (sadly cannot remember who). I cancelled the IVA and started on a DMP with the cccs. Best thing I EVER did!

my lightbulb flickered on and off for a few years before it really kicked in. For me it was working for a company which i was always dreading would fold, not getting a payrise for 3 years and it being my sole responsibility for keeping the roof over my head and just being scared i would lose everthing.0
