Stress! MIL and mum have bought almost the same outfit

No need to reply really, just wanted to moan about this to someone. Our wedding is in 3 weeks, and the MIL and my mum have bought almost identical outfits, and they're both stressing me out about it.
Neither of them will take the outft back, so they're just going to have to wear them. It's quite funny really, but they're doing my head in!!

Oh don;t worry! If they are both happy to wear them it's fine. Perhaps you could think of them as complementary rather than matching?

Tell them that you don't care but if they turn up in the same outfit they'll both look like they've done it on purpose. Suggest they wrestle for it, or toss a coin, or do shots till one of them passes out, or something.

Or go with Miss Manners: traditionally, the mother of the bride chooses her outfit first, and the mother of the groom chooses something that complements it without being overly extravagant or clashing.

I should imagine that neither of them wishes to be seen as the one to back down.

Either both go with what they have bought or both change the outfits.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • I agree they should both back down (that's really the problem isn't it?), take their outfits back and choose again - but ask your MiL2B to wait until your Mum has her outfit so she knows which colour to avoid.
The same thing happened at my wedding, my MiL2B insisted she woud wear the outfit she got married in (about 10 yrs before!) as it was about time it got another outing! So my Gran as MoB asked her what colour it was, I can't remember now (it was 26 years ago) but it definately wasn't green. My Gran bought a gorgeous patterned dress with the main colour a deep green (almost a deep turqoise) it was lovely. When I saw them at the church, MiL had a suit that was green and black!!!!!!
Hope you get this sorted hun, it's a stress you can do without!
PS I won't have that problem at my daughters' wedding as unfortunately SiL2b's Mum has passed away and he is refusing to allow his Dad's partner to be part of the 'Bridal Party' she is merely a 'plus one'!!

I love that there are definate rules about things like this. If only everyone knew them - perhaps I should email the family in advance so they know! ;)
  • The problem is that the wedding is 2 weeks on Saturday, and they were already stressing that we didn't give them much notice. And as the shops are all full of Xmas party dresses they've both had a hard time choosing an outfit, AND have both bought all their accessories.
I think they're both just going to wear the outfits. TBH, they're both red, and my colour scheme is ivory and red, so it will probably look quite nice. I'll just have to make sure they're spaced out evenly in the photos lol

Get them 'spaced out' on some bubbly before the photos then neither of them will care what the other is wearing.:p

Valium. We crush half a tablet, hide it in chocolate and give it to my plane-phobic brother before he flies anywhere. My mother finds it hilarious, not realising that we do the same to her.

I wouldn't stress over it - just be thankful they're not going to look like you! :D
