I pod nano - want speakers need advice

I dropped into my local currys today to buy a docking station/speakers type thing for my husband - last year I bought him an Ipd nano (3rd generation I believe - the squarer one).

The SA in currys tells me this model will be virtually impossible to get anything which will connect with and suggested I replace the Ipod and buy another and speakers along with.

Needless to say I'm a shade suspicious - I was quite prepared to spend £150 or so on some speakers not planning on replacing a 12 month old I pod though.

I'm really not au fait with IPods and technology - do things move as fast as Currys suggest or are they just at it?

  • Hmmm seems unlikely to me. I have a 5 yr old iPod docking station and it is compatible with the classic I bought myself last year, and my DDs' new nanos. And going the other way, I have bought DD1 an IKlipsch docking station for christmas and it's compatible with all our old ones, and more we haven't yet got :)

Second that - SA was having you on - probably heard "I've got an old IPod ..." and translated to "Sell me a new one"

Electronics costing £120 new don't suddenly become "impossible" to connect to 12 months later - I'm sure Apple would like it but it doesn't happen that way - maybe 5 years down the line but then you will have Ebay to look at ....

Not sure what size speakers you are looking at but the AudioEngine 2 speakers are very good if you already have an Ipod dock - http://www.stereophile.com/standloudspeakers/1207ae/

Others are the Logitech Purefi Anywhere @ £100, Klipsch RoomGroove @ £130 or the B&W Zeppelin if you have £400 to spare !
  • What about one of these - got one for DD and works a treat!

I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!
  • I suspected as much. I must admit when I said it was an Ipod nano bought last year and he responded that it had been a "poor choice" it wound me up slightly. A colleague had suggested the Klipsch one or a Bose sound dock. I'll have a dig about online. Bad move on Currys part - I also wanted a 32 inch LG TV and their price was reasonable - they've just lost a sale though!

B&Q had an 32 inch LG TV on sale at £399 last week, not sure if it is the right one.
  • I hope I'm right (if not i've bought a useless set for my boyfriend for christmas!) but if you have a look at the Apple website, they sell them on there and they say that they are compliant with most models - they provide a list for each set. Example below:

  • thanks Nicola - I hadn't thought of the Apple store!

I found myself in Costco today (great way to spend a day off!) and eventually bought a set of Logitech Pure FI Elite - they were £99.99 + vat. I liked them and was able to poke and prod the display model so I'm happy - also happy that the same set appear to be £198 on Tesco Direct!

I've also managed to find the LG 32 inch TV that currys had at £399.99 for £20 less on e-buyer.co.uk with free delivery.
