Just a quick point to consider re getting money back - work like this is now covered by the distance selling regulations - you have a 7 day cooling off period, and there are lots of other points for both yourself and the seller to consider. You can read all about it on the Office of Fair Trading website.
Yes I spoke with Trading Standards this morning and theys stated I needed to send a Recorded Delivery Letter to this company invoking the 7 day rule which apparently only came into force in october. I am not holding my breath though. A new quote suggests the job should be only in the region of £400 but I might have to wait until the end of the week for the work to be carried out....still a long way off £1000+vat!!
