Bank Holiday Entitlement

Hi all,

Just a quickie...

If you work part-time (Wed PM, Thurs and Fri) and the place where you work closes on Bank Holiday, should the person working the end of the week get a day off to take too, or is it just bad luck that they were not there on the Monday to enjoy Bank Holiday Monday!!??

Any source you can quote would be great!

Thanks

FJ

You would be entitled to a proportional part of the bank holiday. so if you work 60% of a full time week, you get 60% of a bank holiday. This means you couldn't take a whole day off for the bank holiday whether you would normally work Monday or not ;)

Well I job share and we all get extra days for bank hlolidays...

I work Mon and Tues....I get 2 days extra, for Good friday and xmas I think

The girl that works WED, THURS Fri, gets an additional 5 days holiday.

I am not complaining, but it does not seam fair to those who work full time, cause I get 16 dys hols. (so 8 weeks and the normal monday bank holidays).and the other girl gets 21 days, but the full time workers only get 21 days plus the fixed bank holidays.

    Full-time worker (assuming 5 days/week) - 29 days holiday (including BHs)

    Someone working 3 days/week - 17.4 days proportionately
    Someone working 2 days/week - 11.6 days proportionately

I agree - it seems to me the full-time worker in your workplace does rather poorly out of the holiday system. In your case the part-timers are being treated more favourably than the full-timers.

Part-time Workers (prevention of less favourable treatment) Regulations 2000

includes the right for part-timers to receive holiday entitlement pro-rata to comparable full-timers

I do get exactly half of what everyone else does apart from Bank Holidays it seems?

Bank Holidays are not taken out of the allocated days, so full timers do get extra holiday.

I might request to move the days that I work to Mon, Tue and Wed AM :rotfl:

So I would say that you are being treated less favourably at the moment - and the other part-timer is being treated more favourably pro rata.
