Anyone feel like just going to bed...

And just staying there until the recession blows over?

Seriously though, I want to break into a computing/IT career but it seems like a bad time to do it when every time I read the news theirs thousands of job losses. How am I supposed to find a job when every company anywhere is thinking about getting rid of staff?

Think it might be better idea to give up looking for a job and focus on spending my time studying rather than looking for a job then maybe when the recession is over I'll be in a better position to get a new job.

Yeah if I get laid off I am going to go back to uni but until then I shall just sit tight :) Try not to let it affect you. I just get on with things.

The thing is most people or companies use computers, and computers will inevitably have problems, so I'd imagine it is a good market to be in. My friend (has his own company) charges £50ph.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.

Errr......I'm afraid this isnt just a Recession - its the Great Depression again or a "sea change".......so theres no point in "going back to bed until its over"..its best to dig in and get on with it as best possible.

I wish you could go and hibernate in Winter it would save some money on fuel

I'm afraid I saw this coming although not as bad as I thought

I paid off all my cards so only debt is mortgage

All you can do is try and ride it out save where possible, dont get into debt that way assuming things dont get a whole lot worse is you are in a better position to recover when there is a upturn.

IT is one of the only sectors to not really get hit.
Here's an article about the US, but it can be likened to the UK.
