To nut or not to nut: that is the question

I've been asked to make mince pies for a few events.
I always make my own mincemeat and my recipe contains almonds.
Should I leave them out just in case someone might be allergic to nuts?
Or do nut allergy sufferers not any anywhere near homebaked goods anyway?

I would be inclined to make my normal mincemeat, including the almonds.
Anyone with a serious nut allergy wouldn't eat homebaked goods as some can have a severe reaction even if you've only touched nuts and not put them in the food.
If you're able to though, put a small note on the dish of mincepies stating that they contain nuts.
Yum yum ... I fancy mince pies now!!0 -
Yep I was going to add just the same as Lady Willow (pretty name). I'd keep them the same as usual and clearly label that they contain almonds. I was going to suggest making a few without nuts, but I think nut sufferers still might steer clear.Just £10,852.28p to go...
Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if...";
And then do it.0 -
I was thinking along the same lines.

Agree with previous posters, anyone who has a nut allergy will avoid things that have not been made by someone they know. A lable is a good idea anyway though.0

My ds has a severe nut allergy and I would definitely keep him away from any mince pies (except those specially made)!!!
It would be a very thoughtful gesture to put a little note by the side saying they contain nuts and then peops with allergies will know they have to be wary of them0 -
I wouldn't include them to be honest. I have a serious nut allergy, and okay I might not eat them, because you may have been handling nuts or may have made something else containing nuts and cross contamination is just as dangerous, BUT it would also rule out my OH, kids and anyone else I was likely to be within touching distance of for about 5/6 hours eating them too.
Also I'd make it a large sign saying they contain nuts and maybe more than one, and if individually wrapped make sure it says it on the packaging.,___,
