As BeanCounter says. how did you come across the file?

She may have done that file on her own agenda and left it for you to find and now you are in a flat spin. In which case, she would count it as a huge success.

The words "possible set-up" did cross my mind too...
  • If I were the employer and were confronted with your findings I would say that the £40200 put into the forecasts was a worse case scenario - which is the right thing to do isn't it?

I would say that any decision on personalities would be taken at the right time using the correct procedures.

Of course, this plan may not be agreed by the board?

Fore-armed is fore-warned - you have time to put yourself as number one choice by what you say and do between now and then - or, you have time to look at other opportuntites.

If it were me, I would keep my own counsel for the moment.

If things turn ugly in the future you have a copy of the plan - and produced at the right time may get your package enhanced if they think you may have a case?

OH DEAR NO! The words "inadmissable evidence" come to mind here. My (admittedly very basic) understanding of the law would be that you cant produce evidence to support your case that you have no legal/official way of having obtained. You are not supposed to have seen that plan - so you cant produce it in evidence. It does give you a "knowledge base" to work from - ie you know what way they are thinking/planning - but you mustnt ever mention that you have seen it.

None because you would have to reveal how you got the information and that was on a local file on the colleagues PC. Under pretty much every companies IT rules, you will have been guilty of gross misconduct and would most likely be dismissed forthwith without any notice period and definitely kissing goodbye to any chance of redundancy pay.
Hi, the file was on the network not on her hared drive - it was a file I was asked to use to upload some numbers, it mearly linked to a file on her D-drive which may or maynot contain names.
  • yes but NI and pension etc gets posted to another part of our P&L - this is the pure salary line, Steve
