ceased self employment - JSA

About 6 weeks ago I ceased self employment working for a CIS contractor. I did this voluntarily as I had a few problems with this particular contractor. I was niave but I thought I would be able to find work with another contractor but it did not materialise so I am effectively unemployed. I am single and have no income or savings and although I am actively looking for work I have signed on for JSA income based. After 4 weeks I am still signing on fortnightly at jobcentre but I've still not received any monies. I have now received a form from Dept of works and pensions asking for details of my self employment and one of the questions is the name and address of the contractor I worked for. I suspect if they contact this contractor they will not be respond very favourably as we had a disagreement. Can anyone confirm if this will affect my JSA claim and if so is there any other benefit I can claim other than Housing benefit and Council tax benefit. I am totally relying on my parents at the moment for support but they are pensioners and don't have a bottomless pit. Surely I am entitled to something given that I am 40 years of age, have no income or savings and have never been out of work before? Any information would be gratefully received.
