Sky+ box for £49 for existing customers

Hi everyone,

This is my first post, so be gentle with me!

If like me, you were hankering for a Sky+ box, but there was no way you were going to pay the daft prices Sky wants then this could be a solution, and one which worked for me.

First of all, you must have been with Sky for at least 12 months, otherwise it is not going to work whatever you say. If they have you in the 12 months contract, so you'll look a little daft if you try this.

So first of all you ring Sky, and then when you get through to an operator ask to be put through to the cancellations department. Now you need a little bit of acting skills here, because you need to sound upset and angry! The operator may ask you what the problem is and this is the general thing you want to say:

"I have been with Sky for some time now (in my case 7 years) and I am sick to death of new customers getting the great deals. The final straw is that new customers can get a Sky+ box for £49 and I have to pay double that as a loyal customer, and its just not fair." Just complain along those lines and you should get the desired result!

Now the trick is not to make out you a ringing for an offer, as far as they are concerned you are ringing to cancel your service, which they obviously don't want you to do! By the time you get through to the cancellations department they should offer you a Sky+ box for £49 plus free installation!

Does it work? Well it did for me, and just before Christmas they offered to replace both my Sky boxes (I have multiroom) for two brand new Pace Sky+ Boxes for £49 each. So needless to say I was happy by this result.

If you already have one or both premium packages (movies & sport) then you shouldn't have to pay the extra £10 for Sky+ subscription. You may have to have multiroom if you don't already, but they will move your old box (and install it) anywhere in the house and put the Sky+ one in its place. If you already have multiroom you may get the same as me!

Now this isn't for everyone, but if you are a Sky addict like me, and sick of not being able to video a program whilst watching another, then it may be worth a whirl. I have totally changed the way I view Sky now, because I can record two programs and then watch the ones I recorded earlier (whilst recording the other two), plus zip through the adverts!

Keep me posted on how you get on, because I'm sure they won't keep this up for ever, but there is no harm in trying!

(P.s. If they don't give you the offer, and they start the cancellation process then to save face you can just let them do it and call back within the 30 days and say you've changed your mind. I know quite a few who have already got their Sky+ boxes, and they all report that they never had to go this far!)

Sound like they've improved their offer a bit.

Last summer they were giving away refurb Sky+ boxes for the same price. Which is what they gave me.

I think the offer has been running since last October.

Its a brand new sky+ box you get but i think you may have to take out multiroom at the same time (we did)

There is a huge thread on here somewhere about upgrading to sky+ etc

One way around them forcing you to take multi-room is to say you only have one TV so why would you need sky in another room, I did this and it worked, of course its a slight lie but c'est la vie.

    All the best

They offered me the normal sky plus box for £49 or the larger hard drive version for £69. Free installation, brand new box and I didnt need multi-room. I have been with then for 3 years, and I took the larger box
