Label removal

I have removed a sticky label from a present I am giving, but the sticky back is still there. Any idea how to remove it ?

I have looked on the index, and the question is there, but I can't open the answer

Thanks

  • Yeah the answer doesn't work, maybe a BG will be able to sort it out.
I think it depends on the surface, and what it is made of. If it was say plastic or something solid, but not absorbant I would use something alcohol based - maybe white spirit or, failing that some vodka maybe :D.

You can use olive oil or nail varnish remover, but again it really depends on whether you might damage the surface.

    Hi charlies_mum,

WD40 always works for me. I don't know if this was the thread you were trying to open but there are lots more ideas on this thread:

    sticky label removal

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the ideas together.

How about WD40? or Baby oil?

It really does depend on the surface

but hopefully, if solid, one of these will work

  • Thanks for that, it's a plastic 'window' on the front of a box. I will try Vodka, I have some that has been in the cupboard for years - I hate vodka, so glad I might have a use for it :D

Nail varnish remover is no good for plastic stuff as the acetone damages the surface and can sometimes warp it
  • WD40 always works for me.Not tried it on plastic film but is great on plastic drinks bottles.
