As a clothing retailer who has been hit by the credit crunch I am getting a bit fed up of shows like GMTV promoting the high street stores sales.
Us independents have sales on also and belive me you can bag a better bargain with an independent than on the high street!
We dont have the marketing spend to promote big one day sales, tv campaigns, national magazine campaigns etc and to boot we are under the most stress from our banks.
I have over the months heard several situations of banks calling in overdraft facilities, business loans & wacking us with massive charges. How are we expected to stay in business!
If you go to an independent you have more bargaining power as a consumer. Ususally the business owner will be instore or somebody with a bit more responsability than a cashier in Topshop, who can, if you ask, negotiate a better discount with you. At times like this we need the cash flow to stay afloat and keep people in jobs.
