My mum used to use clean, dry cartons (milk, juice etc) squashed and on top of the scrunched paper. Light the paper and the carton burns for a while giving the kindling etc to catch.
Not sure how enviromentally friendly burinng cartons is... but it worked for my mummyEver wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
My hubby uses the end of candles we've used (taking off the metal part first) works a treat.hth.xx0

:rotfl:Not arsonists
but those things we use to light the fire with in the winter. I spend far too much money on them, any ideas about what else I could use? I am wondering if I buy a bag if charcoal for bar b q 's one of those might light.
Any ideas peeps?
:eek:Please, please don't burn charcoal in the house. It gives off carbon monixide and chould never be used in an enclosed space.0 -
I would also second the scrunched up newspaper and kindling. Also during the summer months I save the tubes from loo rolls, kitchen towels and silver foil, all these help. Have also found saving any small bits of soap will help light the fire, smells nice too.0

Exactly as Penelope Penguin says, news paper scrunched up into balls, and some kindling (get your self an axe and look around for wood, that can be allowed to dry out and then chopped into small pieces), if you can't get access to wood you can buy kindling.
Add small pieces of coal and add more once the wood starts to burn.Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -
Save hedge trimmings to use as kindling. They will dry out quite quickly if put into an open plastic bag0

Thankyou everyone. I 've learned a few tips. The paper and kindling unfortunately offen doesnt work for me, I think the logs I buy are quite wet really. A real nucience"The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0
