Tax Rebate Due?

Hi all :)

Wondering if someone can help me figure out if/when I am due a tax rebate. It's a bit of a story...

I left a job in September and took up another job. However, the new job I went to wasn't really for me, so I left after a month. My previous employer took so long to get my P45 to me that I had already left my new job by the time I got it, so I ended up paying emergency tax on the BR tax code for my entire month's wage (I am usually on 533L) at my new job.

My question is, I am fairly confident I am due a tax rebate for this, as my tax was roughly double what it normally is when I was on the same pay, but, how will I receive the rebate?

Will I have to wait until the end of the tax year? I have just signed on the dole for 4 weeks until I start back at my old job in the New Year, so will I receive it with my benefits? Or will it be paid to me in my wages when I go back to work in January?

If anyone can shed ANY light, it would be very helpful

The benefit office should pay the refund when you sign off, but I wouldnt count on it as they are terribly bad with tax. More likely to have to wait dor your new employer to do the refund. When you sign off, if your P45 from the benefit office shows code BR, don't give this to your new employer. Ask him for a P46 instead and at elast you will be on emergency code which is better than BR.
Then you will need to contact your tax office and ask them to issue a proepr code to your employer.
On no account wait until the end of the tax year.
