Hi,
My mum is in a similar position (she works at Woolies). She has two other younger kids apart from me and works a full 40 hours week, but after childcare etc, she would be around £200 a month better off not working! The system is crazy...
Anyway, I would go to your local Jobcentre (or call HMRC, they deal with Tax Credits etc) and speak to someone there. Depending on your partner's income, you're entitled to all sorts of benefits, such as the government will pay the interest on your mortgage if you're unemployed etc, but I'm not sure what the threshold is etc
If you're able to find work though, I would still contact them and just double check that if you are getting any benefits you are entitled to. Even if you and your partner are both working, you can still be entitiled to childcare help, working tax credits etc dependant on your incomes. If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.

Go to entitledto.co.uk and fill in all your details to get an idea of what you can claim!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Thanks will have a look and try the websites and numbers stated thanks a lot 4 help!!0

Can you try again in english?
That's a bit harsh!
It may be written in text-speak but it's by no means incomprehensible (I've seen far worse on here!). However assuming that you would like to be of assistance, I'll translate: the OP is being made redundant early next year and cannot survive on their partner's 15K salary alone. They are therefore asking if they would be entitled to any help.
To the OP, since you have at least a month's notice of the impending redundancy, it would be a good idea to use this time to update your CV and get it out to as many agencies and recruiters as possible. It's not a great time of year to be looking for a job, but come the New Year, there should be more available.
You may be entitled to some form of redundancy pay depending on how long you have worked at the company. As a statutory minimum, assuming you are under 41, you would get 1 week's pay per full year worked (after 2 years' service). This is not liable to tax so your redundancy payment would be more than your usual take home pay.
Have you checked out the MoneySaving Old Style Board for ideas on how to make your money for food and cleaning products go further?

BrionaIf I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.0 -
I apologise if this takes things down the wrong track but you say your company has not had a contract renewed. Is the customer getting another company to do the work your company were doing? I wonder if Tupe should apply and you should transfer to the new company? Its just an off the wall thought that probably means nothing, but if it does your job may still be safe. A few more details about the work you were doing may help to decide if Tupe does apply.0

Yes TUPE does apply but ive been told that there is no guarentee that there will be a com-pany that will b there 4 us, also to the reply by Briona it isnt redundancy n i will not get any pay, my job will just be ending in March 2009
Thnx 4 ur help tho0
