I was in Maggianos last week for our christmas dinner. It was nice food, quite expensive though. They did run out of a few desserts when we came to ordering that part. The waitress we had was lovely and a good personality but the service from the bar was very slow.

I would go back but only for a special occiasion or if I got a discount voucher;)

maybe if we just ordered off the main menu ......not the christmas 3 course thingy.....
I usually dont have a starter and main and dessert anyway.....
could you just have a main each and a glass or two of wine...?
  • You should consider the Cloth Ear for eats (Merchant but cheaper) or the Spaniard next door is good for tapas....Muriel's bar is run by the same people as the Spaniard and they also have good food. Good luck!
  • Thought I should throw in my tuppence worth....

Stayed in Malmaison in July - 1 night bed, breakfast and evening meal off the local menu.

Room was fanastic - really well equipped with large bed, ensuite with power shower and BIG bottles of toiletries (which they expect you to take), dvd player, flat screen, trouser press.

Dinner was really good - this set menu was available for I think £17 a head. Other places nearby would be those in Vic Sq or the Cloth Ear etc. If you are going on a Sunday bear in mind that the Merchant does a 3 course Sunday lunch for £20 a head (or I think 2 courses for £17).

Service top class, hotel bar is lovely although a little pricey but bear in mind this is a four star hotel.

I was told that the hotel does not provide parking - you may be lucky enough to get on street parking at off peak times but I wouldn't rely on it.

I have difficulty finding flaw with the stay in July, indeed I am booked to go back in January for my 30th birthday - the way I look at it is that it is comparable to the cost of dinner + taxis + breakfast for me and the overnight stay is *essentially* gratis.

There is a Premiere Inn very close by though - I've never had a bad experience in this chain either and they are significanly cheaper.
Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

  • I stayed in the Malmaison on Saturday night previous (£49.00 Room Only) and it was fantastic!

The Room was brilliant probably the best hotel room for that price I have ever stayed in very clean and well presented.

My wife and I had evening meal which the food was flawless (I would recommend the pigeon for starters); the only drawback we had was the 10% charge for the Service? Our meal bill was around £95.00 without any drinks only a large bottle of water, imagine if there was drinks we feel the charge should be up to the customers!!!

Also got parked at the front door on Saturday around 15.00 hrs which we only had to pay £3.00 for the parking – great!

Overall fantastic hotel can’t wait until the next offer hoping to invite some friends as well!!

If anyone knows when the offer will be available please post it here.

We had off the normal menu, not a set Christmas menu. How did you get on at the Malmaison???
