  • Personally, I wouldnt use NAV, even if they paid me, uninstalling is a nightmare, cant seem to get rid of all the associated files. Also it made my computer shut down erratically. Love Avg, Trend micro House Call, Ad Aware and spybot, all exellent and FREE, forgot Zone Alarm firewall.

Friends of ours got a Virus on their machine, went out and bought Norton, installed it and did not solve the problem.

Got AVG and it found viruses that Norton had missed, and the computer was fine.

My guess to be fair is that the Norton they bought was probably out of date and when you have a virus you do not want to go on the web for updates. However the AVG was up to date and therefore solved the problem.

However, people do report problems with Norton, people do not with AVG, and AVG is completely free.

  • It is probably best if you run a number of programmes together because one alone can never be 100% effective - I also run 'Spybot Search and Destroy' and 'Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition', amoungst others, which are also free and can be downloaded from https://www.computeractive.co.uk/downloads (all computer active downloads have been virus scanned and are safe to download)

You should only ever run ONE AV program - they cause conflicts and will stop them finding things they should!!!

by all means run anti-spyware stuff - as many as possible!!! but only one AV product
  • Thank you very much, been after google earth. :j
