I think they are being unfair on you.
You could try taking them back again and getting served by a different sales advisor. It sounds like the first one did not really understand what they were doing. If you hit the same problem ask for the Store Manager. You should get a better response.
The other way of doing it is to exchange the items individually at different times. This is a hassle but might remove the whole 3 for 2 issue.0 -
This sounds like a crazy till attendant. They should just swap them. What would stop you buying the sizes you need at full price and then returning original ones on the new receipt.0

I don't work for Woolies, but do work for another retailer, so I'll post from a retailers point of view.
Legally you are not entitled to any refund, but Woolies, as most stores, have a refund policy, so to keep your custom and a gesture of goodwill, I would have thought that although the till op couldn't process the refund (through the situation being outside their policy) if you escalate it to a Manager they'd help you out.
From a retailers point of view, they will get dishonest customers who will take an item off of the shop floor and go up to a till and say "got this for christmas, can I exchange it for this?" and then they walk out of the door with an item they haven't paid for, but have a receipt for.. if you get me.
Hope this helps a bit.0 -
wouldn't the pj's have a security tag on if just picked up in the shop though?
I have to agree with the people saying they should do a straight swop as you would be replacing like for like, i cannot see the problem!0 -

OP Isn't asking for a refund in this case
Stick to your guns, and go back in. Rather silly of them to not just swap it over, as it won't make any difference to them money wise.0 -
I used to work for Woolies and, at my branch, we would definitely have given you an exchange! I'd try a different branch if I were you.0

I am confused as to how the till knows they were purchased on 3 for 2. Surely the offer has now ended so a return would go through as minus current price -£x and the swap at £x. How does the till realise they were purchased at £y.
I agree to the find a different staff member on a different day (ie weekday staff are often different that weekend staff) or find a different store if available. All you are doing is swapping them, it is not as if you want to get £x refund when £y was paid.0 -
Call their head office, talk to customer services, if that does'nt work ask for the name/email of the director in charge of clothing, believe me when i say if this gets to director level, heads will roll......!, hope this helps as i used to work there, goodluck

I had a similar problem after my daughter was born. I tried to exchange an outfit for a bigger size. I didn't have a receipt as it was a gift. I was told by the extremely rude assistant that i'd have to get my friend to get the receipt ( despite her living 200 miles away and her having sent the outfit to me).
In the end I took the dress to the big Woolworths in bury st Edmunds and they were fantastic. The staff there couldn't have been more helpful, they even looked through the items to see if there was an identical outfit to the one I wanted to exchange. As there wasn't they simply exchanged it for something to the same value.
I do not know why the girl at Haverhill store was so rude. I considered complaining but gave up. I know in future not to bother there again without receipts.WW Gold Member, trying to maintain !!!Hayden born July 07Tabitha born April 05Poppy born July 030 -
