Halifax : 4.75% SVR from 1st January 2009

Just got off the phone to the Halifax, and their staff have just been informed that the SVR will be 4.75% from 1st January 2009.

All the other products are currently under review.

(Off main topic) but Abbey are withdrawing their current tracker rate mortgages by the end of today, and their new offers should be online during tomorrow.

I wonder what deals Halifax will come up with. If they offered a fix for around 4.5% for 5 years I'd be tempted, if arrangement fees were minimal.

If their SVR is only coming down .25% to 4.75 then it is very very unlikely they will offer a fix for 5 years at less than that. Basically it looks like they are saying "fook it we aint comin any lower" So no matter what happens from now on it looks like they will be sticking where they are now.

Very disappointing considering others are passing on the whole 1%

Don't know whether to be happy or not with this drop. I move from discounted (5.5%) to SVR on 1st Jan. Will have a look around in Jan to see if there are any better options for me.
