Job seekers - claiming for transport retrospectivly

Yes, checks do have to be made, howver there are several ways the checks can be done.
Emails often confirm the interview venure and date. People have asked for prospective employers not to be contacted for the 'first impression' reasons as given in the above post.
To confirm attendance at the interview, I have seen people bring in their day pass or similar item which confirmed attendance.
The Jobcentre do have guidance to follow for TIS awards and unfortunately some of these do expect checks with employers. I guess some staff use a more 'professional' approach than others.0 -

The Travel to Interview Scheme (TIS) guidance does have provision for retrospective awards however the circumstances have to demonstrate that there was a legitimate reason for not claiming in advance.
Re-imbursiment of any travel costs is based upon the cheapest and most reasonable route.
For example, some routes may have fantastic rail networks, others may be out of town industrial estates. Some may have coach routes that are not realistic when considering time and distance travelled.
I know of one TIS award when it was cheaper to pay the air fare than the rail costs or coach costs. Agreement was given to pay re-imburse that air fare to Edinburgh as the flights were so cheap.
TIS also has to be outside what is considered the normal travel to work area. This also varies across the country.
Thanks for all your advice. After asking pretty much everyone at the jobcentre - none of them have a clue about claiming retrospectivly, so they all just said "no" - I have a manager looking into it.
They said they wil find out if it is possible, and believe that because I am claiming jobseakers retrospectivly, that I may be able to claim travel expenses for that period too. They believe it may come down to the discretion of the manager.
Will let you know if I have any luck.
Also found out today that the local council run leisure centre give approx 50-60% off the gym and pool (and pretty much everything). Joined the gym today!0 -
Heard back on Friday from the jobcentre. The woman said that if it was just the one interview I was claiming the transport cost of, then they would do it. Because though that it was for 6, they won't. I don't really understand why this is - they either do or they don't!?!
Anyone else had any success or failures with this?0
