Under 19 he will pay no fees on NVQ and get EMA. Also most colleges have a student hardship fund for those in extra need.0

thank you that a relief was worrying how to find funds if he does get into college...0

Hi you should also continue to recieve your child benefit until he finishes also if he is living with you. He can also get a part time job too at weekends if he wants!0

Yep you will in fact be better off than if he started working! You'd get the child benefit, he'd get EMA (provided he attends all the time). Also if he has to travel he may be able to get discount, depending on the bus company that you use. I had to pay £65-£70 per term for my bus to the next town over for college, and you could use it any time, including weekends.0

Just to point out that he won't necessarily get EMA, only if the household income is within the qualifying limits.0

have looked into ema and he should get it, the bus company charge £100 for a year, which is good as the college is a 60mile round trip......
if he was to live in the college lodgings in the week and come home at weekends would we still get child benefit and tax credits for him, it is a full time course he is wanting to study...0 -
my son had his interview yesterday and he as been offered a definate place at college starting in september, and its now a 2 year course..
do i have to inform tax credits and child benefit a bit nearer the time ?? (would i still get tax credits for him)
also would his ema be used when assesing tax credits ? also if he got a part time job would that be used to assess any tax credits..
thanks for any help0
