Rear Projection T.V. 42" +

I am looking for the best deal on a rear projection t.v.
I have seen the offers at Argos, but am concerned about this HDTV.
Is it worth buying one this is not HDTV ready now, as it appears that HDTV will not be in for some time. There is obviously a great price difference between the ones that are HDTV ready than not, but is there anyway around getting one that isn't then being able to buy some sort of convertor without paying over the odds for a HDTV ready set.
Your views eagerly awaited!!!!!
Oh by the way I don't like the new plasma screens????

I have a 42" rear projection tv. Whilst great for digital quality, eg dvd or newer programmes you really notice the quality drop if you watch anything older eg a team faulty towers etc. Hope i am making sense. You are best of holding back and buying an lcd tv which if you see in the shops has brilliant clarity and quality. Long term wise rear projection are the betamax of tvs.0

I love people whom compare stuff to betamax thinking its inferior , its not , never was , just more expensive.
If your after a cheap non hdtv though asda does the 42 inch 4.3 ratio stero tosh for 500 quid....its good.
As for lcd forget about it , posers market and they are WAY too expensive.
Plasma pics are terrible too , so I would go if your definate on the sagem axium though.....dlp rpj....if you can afford it for the 4.3 ratio....if your after widescreen then get more than a 42 incher.0 -
can anyone tell me when hdtv will be coming in, I assume it has a commencement date???Regards

Apparantly SKY are releasing the HDTV set top box around Feb this year but the box is rumoured to be between £300 -£500 plus £10 per month subscription fee.
So you need a HD TV and a set top boc to receive the HD picture so at the moment it is an expensive option but once it has been out for a while the prices should drop as I cannot imagine many people paying between £300 - £500 for a HD Sky box.
I have a 26" HD LCD TV but I wont be jumping for the Sky box until it comes right down in price0 -
I have watched rear projection TV's a lot in the USA.
I find that you need to sit 'squarely' in front of them or the picture quality is much poorer. i.e. if you are looking at it from an angle it is poor.
Is this still a problem with modern generation sets?0 -
i live with my friend and his girlfriend and they ahve a 50" DLP rear projection TV which is HD ready i have to say the picture quality is fantasatic even on older programs that are shown on sky. I think HD is coming in time for this years world cup as i know that that will definatley be screened in HD.Savings Total so far for 2023: £8,062.580
