Walking boots - is there a classic that's comfy and lasts

I'm looking for some walking boots that are waterproof (or certainly rainproof), comfortable (i.e. kind of plush-feeling when you put your foot in and don't numb your toes after wearing for a few hours) and will last and last.
I'm prepared to pay for quality, but don't know what brands/models are going to be reliable. For guidance, the sort I've got in mind are those plain but smart looking leather boots that are generally £70-100 rrp [but hopefully I'll find some reduced
