Not sure if this in the right place so BG's please feel free to move it.
I bought my OH a digital camera for christmas only he isn't happy with it as the buttons at the back are scratched and some of the detail is missing on them. He wants me to try and get a replacment is this being picky? If it isnt has anyone tried getting a refund from Tesco Extra? As I got this online. Reading the bumpff that came with it it says return in 10 days. I bought this in November but didnt think to check the back of the camera before I gave it to my OH
. I'm just not sure what to do.
Any advice is much appreciated thank you.

Don't think it's being picky - were the buttons like that when you bought it? If so return it me thinks, if the writing has faded recently maybe you can still return it as it's quite quick for it to happen.2p off is still 2p off!0

Well,I feel that a gift should be respected and he has hurt your feelings ,the slight difficulties, do they impair the use,if they do OK ,if not why has he hurt your feelings he

Most stores have a 28 day returns policy after that, I think you get a credit note. If you had returned within 28 days, you would have been entitled to a full refund or a replacement. The way it stands just now, I'm not too sure. It is after the 28 days but it was a gift. You don't buy a digital camera and expect it to be in that state when you buy it, so I would say it wasn't of merchantable quality when it was bought so you should get a refund or a replacement. The thing is it's proving that the buttons etc were like that when bought as Tesco weren't notified. Not sure... sorrry.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. Apart from the scratches he loves it. He has OCD so everything to him has to be perfect and thats the way he is. He didnt act disappionted or anything just asked me if I'd played around with it before I gave it to him I said no and he then replied with oh ok its just its scratched.
They dont really impair the use although on one of them it is a little unclear what the picture on the button is. I had to look in the manual to figure it out.

Do they still stock the same camera? Are you looking to swap it for another the same or a different one? If it is just a straight swap you are after then I can't see them making a fuss - but... Tescos can be a bit funny sometimes. I don't think you are being picky, you have a right to have been provided with perfect goods and if it has come like that or if that has happened in that short space of time then you have every right to ask for an improvement. If they do make a fuss and they still stock the same camera, buy another and then take the first back with that receipt for a refund.Accepted offer on our house - Sept 2006

Feelings have got nothing to do with anything. The fact is you paid good money for a new item which appears to be in not completely in new condition.
Most stores have longer exchange/refund times over the Christmas and New Year period. Hopefully Tesco will take the same stance.
Call them, tell them you've only just used the camera and found the problem and take it from there. The fact that one of the buttons has an unclear function because of the scratches/missing detail is grounds enough I would've thought.Herman - MP for all!

Most stores extend the return period from November/December to mid January because of Christmas Gifts.
Just need to check with Tesco.0 -
Thank you all for your help. Yes it is a straight swap I'd like so the same camera as other than the scratches the camera is fine. I'll ring them tomorrow and let you know how I get on. Thank you again you have made me feel a bit better asking for a new one.
