B&Q 15% off all paint

My local B&Q store (Hitchin) are offering 15% off the cost of all paint. Don't know how long this promotion is on for, or whether its nationwide. No minimum spend required I think (but I didn't actually buy any so check to avoid a surprise at the tills).

  • Yes, this is a Nationwide offer. i saw an advert for it in the paper today. it does not mention how long this promotion is on for though. I am going there tomorrow to get some paint so i will ask and report back!

  • Yes I saw this advertised in the Daily Mail I think. When I went to B&Q on Friday there was no mention of the offer in the store. The 15% came off at the checkout fine though. I bought 2 different types of Dulux range but I think advertisement said ALL Paint.
  • Are B&Q as cheap as Homebase on pain
  • Before I try and fit a trip in on an already too busy weekend, does anyone know whether the 15% discount offer is still running? Many thanks

I am pretty sure it is £50 minimum spend when I was looking at paints on wednesday.

No minimum spend required at Hitchin B&Q, and the offer was still on yesterday.
  • I know people in the painting trade and they all say don't go near dulux and crown paint. I'm told that they highly advertised poor quality brands for the DIYer. You can get much cheaper brands in trade type places (often open to the public). Jonstones and Leyland are probably the best know paints in this category. As a manic DIYer and landlord I've tried them and they are brilliant (and cheaper). The merchant often gives tips, here's one- When painting vinyl silk with 2 coats, do the 1st coat matt and the 2nd coat silk otherwise if you do 2 coats of silk you may find you need a 3rd! This is because silk is diluted with the sheen effect and is more transparent than matt.
If you want a good finish with fewer coats then use jonstones 'high opacity' or oblitorating emulsion. It does exactly what it says on the tin. Often you can get away with one coat but if not you can re-coat just a couple of minutes later.
I know lots of people will be happy with their DIY paint and contradict me for the fun of it but there are better and cheaper paints than Dulux and crown.
