benefits (or lack of) if you are sacked

Hello all

I just want to ask about benefits for my dad's brother who was sacked from his job. I am just finding out for him- so please don't flame me!

He worked for a company for 9 years as a part time delivery person, and was on the minimum wage from when it came in a few years ago. He was dismissed a couple of weeks ago for saying he had done more hours on his time sheet than he had (to be honest, quite likely for him).

He is in his fifties with his 2 daughters living at home, one works full time in retail. He has saving of less than £5000, and has a car loan and about 8 years left on the mortgage.

Would he be entitled to JSA, income support or anything similar? What about council tax and utilities.
Please could I stress that he has been an idiot and we all know this- but with some people you can talk till you are blue in the face.

Will the jobcentre look at the other income in the house / value of the property? etc
thanks if you can help

They will ask about the household income. What is this?

He can claim contributions based JSA but he will be sanctioned. He may get nearly the full amount, he may get nothing. The sanction can last up to 26 weeks. Once contributions based JSA comes to an end, he'll be on income based. The incomes of his daughters and their contribution to the household bills will be taken into account.
Any council tax benefit will also be subject to being based on the incomes of the daughters.

    His debts are completely irrelevent.

Then again he might not be sanctioned, i wasn't even asked why when it happened to me, and if he is sanctioned he may be able to appeal. anyway good luck
