  • Last year in the sale at Debenhams I ordered a new sofa, the order went through fine until the next day I received an email to say it was cancelled. I tried to order again and it seemed to go through ok. The next day (the day the sale finished) I got another email saying the order couldn't be completed. I rang CS and was told that they could take payment but it was for the full amount, not the sale amount. They couldn't explain why the order wouldn't go through but refused to give me the reduced price even though it wasn't my fault. At the same time I had ordered a D&G watch for my husband in the sale, after 2 weeks of chasing up the delivery and a bit of panicking as it was so close to xmas (it was less than a week away) a package arrived and it was 2 very lovely but not very watch like denby glasses. I rang CS again to tell them and they didn't even get what I was trying to tell them. They then said that the watch was out of stock and that they would refund the £160 back to my account when they received the glasses back. I was absolutely livid I had no sofa for xmas and had to go out looking for prezzies a couple of days before the big day with no money. It took a week to get the money back.

Never use them!! They are rubbish!

I'll never shop with Debenahms online again, they are a nightmare. Overcharged me and the girl in CS told me that she could see the price I should have been charged but could not refund me, only Home Shopping could do that but Home shopping said that they had not overcharged me and that the price was correct. Never, ever again!! Even if they were giving the stuff away I'd not get it from them!!
  • i shall not bother even ordering anything! it seems more hassle !!! it must be easier to drive to town, park and queue than get frustrated with wrong orders, bad service and long telephone calls! thanks for your advice folks! x
  • I can only echo what the others have said - their website CS is awful! Have had orders cancelled yet its still coming up as in stock, after I had 3 orders cancelled I phoned and emailled - I pretty much got 'tough luck' from the phone call, I got an automated reply saying they'd be in touch after I sent the email. I'm still waiting for the reply almost a year later.

I placed an order yesterday only to get an email telling me that my order had been cancelled today.

I called customer services and was told that was because people from all over the world are placing orders and the item may be gone before the order goes through. I told her then that the website should update accordingly then!

She didn't seem interested and when I told her I'd never use the website again she said "fine".

    Fine then!

I've ordered from them several times before without any problems but today I received an order which is missing the main thing I wanted and instead of the socks I ordered I got a 30DD bra...

These websites are having to deal with hundreds of transactions every second, so it isn't surprising that it cannot update instantly upon the sale of the last item of stock of a particular item, it is possible that you placed your order at near enough the exact same time as someone else, and the website wouldn't have had time to react, hence the ordering confusion. This happens a lot this time of year, it isn't isolated to Debenhams, so there isn't any point getting needlessly uppety about it.

Well, I should say that you should take your own advice then. ;)
