Hello im new and this is my first post, i was wondering if anyone could help me.
I received a leter this morning from J2 solutions asking for me to phone them reference a "personal matter". The letter was addressed to the occupier instead of myself and it had my name lower down on the letter.
This struck me as highly suspicious so i googled the gits and found out what they do.
In 2001 a credit card was received by somebody somewhere, in my name. £500 was spent on this card and Barclays started calling me in early 2002 about it. I have never owned, used or wanted a credit card and i told them as such but they insisted i had used it numerous times between nov 2001 and february 2002. As luck would have it i was based in Germany at those times and my bank statements show that i was using my debit card in Germany within minutes of the credit card being used in England. After i figured this out i sent them witness statements from others in my unit confirming my whereabouts at those times. Barclays said it would be sorted out and all was well.
Fast foward about a year and Cabot start phoning me, telling me that "my" debt is now in excess of £5000. After explaining in detail everything that had already happened they said they would investigate it as fraud.
They then persisted in calling me at least once a month for the next 2 years. Each call was by a different person so i had to explain everything every single time. in the end i would just end up saying
"this has been going on for years, its not my debt, im never paying a penny of it so go away."
This stopped at the end of 2005 after having to provide proof of where i was on the original dates AGAIN.
Im sorry this is a long winded post but i've abbreviated it as much as i can.
Then i today i get this letter.
Im not one to fall for pushy tactics (8 years in the infantry will do that to you!) so im thinking i'll just ignore it as i have actually never spent a penny of this so called debt.
Is this wise?

Hi dc - first of all do NOT phone J2 solutions - they are a particularily unsavoury example of one of the lowest forms of 'debt collection'. Along with their 'sister' company - MacKenzie Hall - they 'specialise' in trying to collect 'debts' which are old, unenforceable or, as in your case, non-existant. They rely on their victim's ignorance of the protection that the Law may afford him, and their consistent harrassment often ends up with the 'alleged debtor' making a payment simply to get these 'leeches' off of their back.
Looking at the 'history' of this 'alleged debt' it seems to have reached the bottom of the cess-pit, by ending up in the clutches of J2 Solutions.
Do not contact J2, either by phone or letter, until you have spoken to one of the Debt Charities, such as National Debtline - 0808 808 4000, CCCS - 0800 138 1111, or your local CAB, who can advise on how, legally, to deal with J2.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Ok thanks for the info, i'll get onto the Debtline you gave me.
Either way im not paying it so i shouldnt be bothered, but it gets tiresome after nearly 7 years.

If you did not take out this card, you are not liable for the debt.
if you did take out the card but no payment has been made for more than 6 years, the debt is statute barred unless there is a CCj against it, so you do not have to pay.
If there is a CCJ, yu can ask for it to be set aside because you were not spending on the card.
please rinfg the debt charities to get the full low-down and make a formal complaint to barclays. I would suggest advsing them that they need to call off J2 as passing on false information about your liability for this debt breaks the DPA.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Thanks, i'll be sure to get as much info as i can on the matter.
And i didnt take out the card, ive never applied for, received or used a credit card in my life.
Personally i think a Barclays employee has used my details to get himself a card as it was applied for about 2-3 days after i applied for my debit card.
