Swearing an oath for probate

I'm the executor for my mothers estate, I'm using a solicitor and will have to go to an independent one to swear an oath. Has any one had to do this and if so what happens.
I should have asked at the meeting but was feeling emotional and just wanted to leave.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I recently did this for my father's estate, although I didn't use a solicitor (so did mine at the local probate court). Very simple process - you just read out an oath on a card saying that you will carry out the roll of executor properly and distibute the estate according to the will (as far as I remember) ...took about 5 mins.
  • I had to do this a while back. My solicitor sent the paperwork, I phoned another firm and went to see them. The second solicitor popped out of her office and it took less than 1 min at the reception desk.

I can add my 2p's worth and confirm what the other's have said. It is a very quick and simple process, and you just need to let the solicitors you propose to use know that you would like to attend and swear the oath. Most won't even make an appointment but will just say pop in at your convenience, because it takes so little time.

I've done this twice now when administering my sister's estate and later my father's. As I recall, there is a standard fee for the service which was only £5, but I don't know whether that has since gone up.
