I read in a local mag that Relish in Wadebridge, Cornwall is offering bags of its used coffee grounds to gardners to put round plants to discourage slugs. What a great idea!

I've never tried that I usually just put the grounds in the compost bin.
Does anyone know if this works?
I could always try but don't have much of a slug problem at the moment as the chickens have free range of the garden and have gobbled them all up.I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead

Starbucks give away bags of used coffee grounds for free. If you can't see them on display just ask, they will usually fill a bag up for you. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

This happened to me when I tried it. I've never seen so many slugs and snails in my garden before. It was more than odd, it was like a plague of slugs that afternoon. Anyway, I can't say for sure it was linked to the coffee I put down, but they seemed to be enjoying the plants I put the coffee on most of all!
If you want to try coffee to get rid of slugs, I'd go ahead cautiously after what I saw in my garden.0 -
Slugs like to eat coffee grounds. That's my conclusion. But for me it did stop the slugs, so long as I didn't put the coffee grounds too close to the actual plants. The slugs went no further. They got to the coffee first and ate that instead of the plants.0

I work in the cafe at Sainsbury's and we give away the coffee grounds for this purpose too. Some customers say it doesn't work with keeping slugs away but it's great for roses and helps to keep the soil good
